Postpartum
Breastfeeding
Preparing for feeding with information, flexibility and support.
Breastfeeding is learned by both parent and baby. Preparation can help, but responsive support after birth often matters more than trying to anticipate every detail.
Protect the early learning period
Position, latch, milk transfer and comfort can change from feed to feed. Skilled observation can identify what needs adjustment.
Support the person who is feeding
Rest, hydration, nourishment and practical help shape the feeding experience. The mother’s well-being is part of infant care.
Use support without shame
Lactation guidance, pumping, supplementation or a change in feeding plan may all be appropriate. The goal is informed, sustainable care for both parent and baby.
