Why Most Doula Interviews Miss the Mark

A better way to evaluate support for labor, birth and the unexpected.

A list of standard interview questions may reveal services and availability, but it does not always show how a doula thinks, responds under pressure or fits your values.

Ask about relationship, not performance

Explore how the doula listens, communicates and makes room for your decisions rather than focusing only on techniques or promised outcomes.

Discuss changing circumstances

Birth may not follow a preferred plan. Ask how the doula supports informed choice, medical collaboration and emotional steadiness when the path changes.

Notice how you feel

Information matters, but so does the quality of the interaction. You should feel able to ask questions, disagree and remain at the center of your care.
